Historical Art Map Commission and SAP Art Fest Auction
Carter Avenue Frame Shop has commissioned local artist and history buff, Stefanie Kiihn, to complete an historical and artistic map of the Saint Anthony Park neighborhood, where our business has resided since 1975. The map will be auctioned at this coming year’s Saint Anthony Park Arts Festival with all proceeds from the auction going to the festival. See more info below.
About the artist
Stefanie specializes in creating immensely detailed hand-drawn maps with a unique incorporation of pointillism. She has already created maps for other Saint Paul neighborhoods. These maps are a mixture of current property tax maps and historic plat maps to showcase the differences in a neighborhood throughout time. These maps contain historical vignettes highlighting major elements of a neighborhood’s history. See more of her previous work on her website - www.kiihn.com.
Starting Sketch
Stefanie provided us a basic starting sketch to get an idea of how much could be incorporated. We are thrilled, that unlike most plat maps, both North and South Saint Anthony Park areas will be included. Stefanie’s journey to complete the map includes many months of research to learn the important events and people of the area. Then comes the meticulous hand drawing process to blend all of this information and create a beautiful display.
We will be providing some progress updates along the way, but are looking forward to the finished piece around May, 2024.
SAP Art Festival Auction
This coming year will mark the 55th year of the SAP Art Festival and the 90th of the Saint Anthony Park Branch Library Association (the art festival’s producer). Stefanie’s original commissioned art map will be auctioned off in a silent auction at a special history tent commemorating these milestone years for the given organizations. The proceeds from the auction will go back to the SAP Art Festival to continue to provide the community a wonderful summer event. Additionally, a limited edition reproduction of the map will be available for purchase at the tent and at Carter Avenue Frame Shop. Proceeds from the prints will be shared with the SAP Art Festival.
